The Colours
were of extreme importance to the soldiers and are still today. They were
to be guarded at all cost for they represent the pride and honour of the regiment.
The ensign, the flag carrier, was a soldier of great importance usually a
soldier who had served his regiment well. It was a great privilege to be able
to carry the colours.
